Global Education

Global education is a learning approach that helps to create better global citizens. In Good Shepherd Academy, you are exposed to what global education means, what it includes (and doesn’t) and its key components.

But first, what exactly does ”global education” mean? Here in Good Shepherd Academy International, it means not only becoming proficient in one or more additional languages, but also exploring other cultures and countries and how societies are interconnected.

A global education is one that incorporates learning about the cultures, geographies, histories, and current issues of all the regions of the world. It emphasizes the interconnectedness and diversity of peoples and histories. Global education develops student’s skills to engage with their global counterparts and highlights the most basic actions students can take as citizens of the world. Global education is a lens that can be applied to all disciplines and all class levels as well as the broader school community.

It is important to understand that, not all schools have this type of learning experience, but many experts and educators are advocating for a move toward a more global education for all students. Here in Good Shepherd Academy, We fast becoming a global educational center where every child is fully equipped to face the world. Our curriculum is designed not only to accommodate additional languages, but we also pave the way for our students to learn and explore the lives and cultural diversities of people across the globe.

This is imperative for us here at Good Shepherd Academy, because we believe global education is the overall approach to education that focuses on developing students’ appreciation and understanding of other cultures, history and geography of different countries of the world and people and the current events and/ or challenges faced in various parts of the world. In particular, it focuses on helping students understand these things and how each culture, though complex is interconnected with one another. It also encourages learners to embrace the diversity around them.

Global education is not about learning about the food, flags, festivals and famous faces of other places, though those items can certainly important and are also incorporated. However, in the Good Shepherd community we focus in a broader view on the attitude, values, challenges, complexities, choices, similarities and differences of other cultures and how we’re all interdependent on one another.

At the end of receiving a global education, the hope is to have developed globally competent people who can appreciate different cultures, embrace other

perspectives and be successful and responsible global citizens. Only then can we say, The Good Shepherd Academy global education dream have been met.

We believe that education should have a global reach that is why we make you ready for the world.
